ACTION MAY BE REQUIRED: Label Update – 2D Barcodes

2

We are proud to announce enhanced labels for Standard Delivery and Returns services including new 2D barcodes, improving scanning accuracy and consistency and driving a better client experience.

ACTIONS REQUIRED BY CLIENT INTEGRATION TYPE

OFFLINE LABEL CLIENTS

For offline clients, you will be required to change the design of your labels to accommodate the 2D barcode.

  1. Deadline is January 21, 2024 to have compliant labels. We recommend implementing earlier than the deadline to ensure you are ready in advance of this date.
  2. All Delivery and Returns labels must adhere to the new requirements. This is NOT a Hazmat-only requirement.
  3. You must code to the specification provided in the links below – all existing standards now include 2D barcodes

Please note that you can also choose to integrate with our API directly to ensure your labels will be compliant for this and other potential changes moving forward.

API Clients:

For API clients, no action is required by API clients for this change. The existing 1D barcode (IMpbTM) will remain on the label, so processes that you use which require this barcode will not be affected.

OVERVIEW OF CHANGE

Pitney Bowes API clients will have a label upgrade, beginning rollout in mid-June 2023, that will include a 2D barcode in addition to the existing 1D Intelligent Mail ® Package Barcode (IMpbTM). Adding the second, 2D barcode is expected to reduce scan failures, improve data quality and ensure a smoother flow through the parcel journey.

We expect this change to benefit our clients with improved information and reduced exceptions while also improving the experience for consumers as they will have more seamless delivery and returns experiences.

The labels will automatically be updated with the 2D barcode. You will see the new 2D barcode on the label starting soon. Contact your Client Engagement Manager or [email protected] for any questions related to API client updates.
